Strategic Planning determines where an organization is going over the next year or more, how it's going to get there and how it will know if it got there or not. The focus of a strategic plan is usually on the entire organization, while the focus of a business plan is usually on a particular product, service or program.
Business Continuity Planning is the overall process of developing an approved set of policies and procedures to insure that a business can respond to a disaster and resume its critical business functions within a specified time frame objective. It is an ongoing process to plan, develop, and implement disaster recovery procedures to ensure the optimum availability of critical business functions. The primary objective is to reduce the level of risk and cost to the business and impact on the staff, customers, and suppliers. Business continuity is not something implemented at the time of a disaster. Business continuity refers to those activities performed daily to maintain service, consistency, and recoveraibility. Disaster Recovery Planning is the process, policies and procedures related to preparing for recovery or continuation of technology infrastructure critical to an organization after a natural or human-induced disaster.Disaster recovery planning is a subset of business continuity planning and should include planning for resumption of applications, data, hardware, communications (such as networking) and other IT infrastructure. A business continuity plan (BCP) includes planning for non-IT related aspects such as key personnel, facilities, crisis communication and reputation protection, and should refer to the disaster recovery plan (DRP) for IT related infrastructure recovery/continuity. |
